Step 1 – Prepping Your Vehicle
Park your 2006 Toyota Avalon on level ground. Firmly place your vehicle ramps under the front tires of your 2006 Toyota Avalon. Drive up the vehicle ramps slowly and cautiously, never accelerate or apply the brakes suddenly. Once your 2006 Toyota Avalon reaches the top of the vehicle ramps, carefully apply the brakes to prevent over travel and set the emergency brake. Turn off your vehicle, open the hood and remove the oil filler cap from the top of the engine. Refer to the specifications chart below for the oil drain plug location on your 2006 Toyota Avalon and locate it on the underside of the engine. Slide your oil drain pan underneath the oil drain plug to catch the old oil during draining.
Step 2 – Draining the Old Engine Oil
Use a torque wrench with a 14-mm socket to remove the oil drain plug. Keep in mind, turning the oil drain plug to the left with loosen the oil drain plug and turning it to the right will tighten the oil drain plug. After fully removing the oil drain plug and oil drain plug gasket, allow the old oil to drain into the oil drain pan. After the old oil is completely drained, wipe off any residual oil around the oil drain. Remove the old oil drain gasket from the oil drain plug and replace it with the new one. Re-install the oil drain plug and oil drain plug gasket back onto the oil pan. Refer to the specifications chart below for the oil drain plug torque of your 2006 Toyota Avalon. Tighten the oil drain plug to the specified torque.
Step 3 – Removal of Old Oil Filter
Refer to the chart below for the oil filter location on your 2006 Toyota Avalon and locate it on the underside of the engine. Place your oil drain pan underneath the oil filter location to catch any residual oil that may still be inside the old oil filter during removal. Use your torque wrench, socket extension and Toyota oil filter removal tool to loosen the oil filter from the engine. Slowly unscrew the oil filter housing cap and let any residual engine oil drain into the oil drain pan. When all the residual oil has completely drained, unscrew the oil filter housing cap completely. Wipe off any residual oil from the area where the oil filter was removed so that when the new oil filter is installed, it seals well.
Step 4 – Installation of New Oil Filter
Apply new engine oil to the rubber gasket of the new oil filter. Doing this will ensure a tight seal and will make it easier to remove the oil filter when you perform your next oil change. Using your hand, screw in the new oil filter onto the engine until you can’t tighten it anymore. Use the oil filter wrench to tighten the new oil filter a 3/4 turn more to ensure a tight seal.
Step 5 – Refilling with New Oil
Place the funnel into the oil filler on the top of the engine. Refer to the specifications chart below for the oil capacity of your 2006 Toyota Avalon. Refill your engine with new motor oil to the specified oil capacity. Re-install the oil filler cap. Locate your oil dipstick on the top of the engine. Remove the dipstick and wipe the dipstick with a clean cloth or paper towel. Insert it all the way back into the engine. Remove the dipstick again and the check the oil level. It should be between the upper and lower marks on the dipstick.
