Drive up the vehicle ramps slowly and cautiously, never accelerate or apply the brakes suddenly. Once your 2011 Chevrolet Malibu reaches the top of the vehicle ramps, carefully apply the brakes to prevent over travel and set the emergency brake. Turn off your vehicle, open the hood and remove the oil filler cap from the top of the engine. Refer to the specifications chart below for the oil drain plug location on your 2011 Chevrolet Malibu and locate it on the underside of the engine. Slide your oil drain pan underneath the oil drain plug to catch the old oil during draining.

car remove Step 2 – Draining the Old Engine Oil

Use a torque wrench with a 15-mm socket to remove the oil drain plug. Keep in mind, turning the oil drain plug to the left with loosen the oil drain plug and turning it to the right will tighten the oil drain plug. After fully removing the oil drain plug and oil drain plug gasket, allow the old oil to drain into the oil drain pan. After the old oil is completely drained, wipe off any residual oil around the oil drain. Remove the old oil drain gasket from the oil drain plug and replace it with the new one. Re-install the oil drain plug and oil drain plug gasket back onto the oil pan. Refer to the specifications chart below for the oil drain plug torque of your 2011 Chevrolet Malibu. For 4-cylinder engines, use a torque wrench with a 32-mm socket to loosen the oil filter housing cap from the engine. Slowly unscrew the oil filter cap and let any residual engine oil drain into the oil drain pan. When all the residual oil has completely drained, unscrew the oil filter cap completely. Wipe off any residual oil from the area where the oil filter was removed so that when the new oil filter is installed, it seals well.

For V6 engines, use the oil filter wrench to loosen the oil filter from the engine. Slowly unscrew the oil filter and let any residual engine oil drain into the oil drain pan. When all the residual oil has completely drained, unscrew the oil filter completely. Wipe off any residual oil from the area where the oil filter was removed so that when the new oil filter is installed, it seals well.

car install Step 4 – Installation of New Oil Filter

For 4-cylinder engines, remove the old rubber gasket and old oil filter from the oil filter housing. Install the new old rubber gasket that came with your new oil filter. Apply new engine oil to the rubber gasket. Doing this will ensure a tight seal and will make it easier to remove the oil filter housing cap when you perform your next oil change. Using your hand, screw in the new oil filter housing cap onto the engine until you can’t tighten it anymore. Use the torque wrench with a 32-mm socket to tighten the new oil filter a 3/4 turn more to ensure a tight seal.

For V6 engines, apply new engine oil to the rubber gasket of the new oil filter. Doing this will ensure a tight seal and will make it easier to remove the oil filter when you perform your next oil change. Using your hand, screw in the new oil filter onto the engine until you can’t tighten it anymore. Use the oil filter wrench to tighten the new oil filter a 3/4 turn more to ensure a tight seal.
